Southwestern hospitality at La Punta Norte

It was a warm Friday afternoon in late May when we arrived at La Punta Norte Guest House for our fourth anniversary celebration.

The seven-room inn is in the Okanagan, a few kilometres north of Summerland and south of Peachland, just off Highway 97. We had noticed it many times over the years, but this was our first visit to the inn.

From the highway, the southwestern-style architecture catches the eye. This southwestern theme continues with cacti and other desert plants on the property along with attention to the southwestern theme details in the room as well.

Each room has its own private patio overlooking Okanagan Lake. There is a private hot tub on each balcony and, for cooler nights, a fireplace in the room. This is an inn designed for romance, recreation, and relaxation. It’s a place to go to unwind, enjoy a break, reconnect, and recharge. We did all of these things and made good use of the hot tub, four times over the weekend.

There is also a common area with a barbecue, tables and chairs, and a small outdoor swimming pool. The barbecue area is covered, an important feature for both rainy days and the hot, sunny days of the Okanagan summer. There are also benches and a picturesque gazebo set up on the property, all offering amazing views of the lake.

“I’ve driven by La Punta Norta hundreds of times over the years and have always wanted to stay here, so our fourth anniversary seemed like a great reason to book a staycation.”

For those who want to get closer to the lake, there is a path down to a beach on Okanagan Lake.

If it looks familiar, the inn is one of the featured settings in the 2020 Hallmark movie, The Christmas Yule Blog. Those who have seen this movie may also want to look for some of the other filming locations around Summerland.

La Punta Norte has also become a popular wedding location, and there are some features and amenities to accommodate weddings on the property.

While this inn is close to Highway 97, it is very quiet. During our time there, we could not hear any of the highway traffic from the property, whether we were in our room or outside enjoying the hot tub on our balcony.

“It’s amazing an inn this close to the highway can be so peaceful and relaxing. We felt as if we were in a secluded corner of paradise.”

John

We met the host a number of times throughout the weekend, and she was kind and friendly, offering suggestions and checking in to see if we needed anything.

During our getaway, the inn was the focal point of our weekend, but we also checked out a few nearby amenities.

Fitzpatrick Family Vineyards at Greata Ranch is six kilometres to the north. In addition to wine tasting, the winery also has a restaurant with indoor and outdoor dining. We enjoyed a lovely anniversary dinner celebration here.

We also did a hike along Gladstone Trail in Peachland. This 4.2-kilometre trail loop was built by the Peachland Outdoors Club. It offers some spectacular views of Okanagan Lake and the town of Peachland.

The end of our weekend getaway on Sunday afternoon seemed to come too soon. We could have used another couple of days at the inn.

Still, we were refreshed and rejuvenated as we returned home from our weekend. We are looking forward to returning for another getaway in the future. Whether you are looking for a local staycation or a destination getaway, La Punta Norta is definitely a hidden gem, and we highly recommend it.
